A distinct Palestinian national identity has existed since the mid 1870s and the existence of a Palestinian people has been documented in recorded history thousands of years prior. You know the Philistines, those guys mentioned in tons of Biblical texts? Those are the Palestinians. Surely, Newty, you don’t think the Bible was “invented.”

Philistines - is just one of the ancient human group said to came from one of those Greece islands and settled in the area - (and fought against Jews [King Saul] etc). And that doesn’t mean they are the (verified) ancestors of Palestinians. Rather far from it. There are arguments over (not so credible clues, in the end) Old Testament and other old Egyptian historic documents -
But to say Philistines were actually Palestinians or their ‘identified/verified’ ancestral human group is too-many-steps stepping over what we know today.
I don’t know even DNA analysis can do anything on this.
It’s just one of those ancient tribes in the region no one really knows for sure where they are now.
*Also I believe either distinct or not (that’s really not a point), Palestinian people have been there and living in that area *****lot before***** than 1870s.
