It’s like a ‘Disparity’ between
when I visited a house (or a giant, victorian mini-castle) of ice cream business owner (Pakistani British) -
- how plaster walls were finished (incredibly thick and had amazing curves)
- how they were meticulously painted
- how roof windows had ornate start patterns and gold moldings
- tropical plants, marbles, security intercom - giant kitchen, tall hall way ceiling
And then there was this woman who is single but with 2 kids, and probably making a living as someone’s concubine or a prostitute.
How her floor wasn’t covered, exposed wood boards. So she’d cover with bits and pieces of old carpets she gathered. Only appliance she had was one boom box. Chimney had large crack running from top to bottom inside. But she didn’t have other heat source.
One day someone came and throw few molotov cocktail and set fire on her house’s backyard - which was piled up with full of trash.
Of course the richer guy - had more ‘Saudi’ style feel to how he dresses.
And then the woman had more of - trying hard imitating something like Bollywood actress. One day she’d be all green, from head to toe - then next time she’s all orange - and then she tries all pink. At dusk, anxiously standing by at the door.
Different world.
Yeah, it was England, so of course - class society - richer people goes for being aristocratic (rather secretively) - and the poor gets completely disregarded and unattended. (Poor people in England - I feel - like they almost live silently and die silently. No traces or records. That’s also the fate of not well-to-do white pensioners.)
I still don’t know whoever talks about this re: Pakistani/Asian communities in UK.
