“If you want to free a society, just give them internet access. Because people, the young guys, you know, are all going to go out and see biased media, see the truth about other nations and their own nation and they’re going to be able to contribute and collaborate together.”
▸ Coptic-Muslim clashes erupt in Egypt

Is this never gonna end.

  1. Does not look like
  2. (Unity during Tahrir is now gone)
  3. By so far Brotherhood government is acting quite Islamist-ish (in their politics)
  4. No real restraints imposed by SCAF/Deep State
  5. nor by USA (meh)

General view was that ‘Economy and safety&order - thus stability” would be the top agenda Brotherhood (and allied Islamists) have to achieve ASAP. And for that purpose, they won’t stir up the society for the sake of their more religious agendas - that was the expectation but - it’s all so slow going.

Nothing brilliant for economy is coming from the government, but these small sectarian tensions are steadily on the rise. Restraints posed under Mubarak’s era are snapping away. But no firm and clear stance coming from SCAF/Deep State side.

Why? SCAF maybe waiting Brotherhood to fail - become discredited, or just don’t care about still relatively small incidents.

(Anyway, this Associated Press piece is bit more telling and readable than BBC’s dry piece.

Sectarian violence breaks out again in Egyptian village following death of Muslim man)
