“If you want to free a society, just give them internet access. Because people, the young guys, you know, are all going to go out and see biased media, see the truth about other nations and their own nation and they’re going to be able to contribute and collaborate together.”
▸ Sweden’s ‘Damn Jew’ Problem, Tablet Magazine

girlactionfigure:

Wearing a yarmulke is no longer safe in the city of Malmö. The mayor blames the Jews, while other Swedish politicians point to ‘social inequality.’

Needs furthermore reading/checks to understand what’s going on, but the problem is Europe isn’t still equipped with the formula - focus and mindset for preventing this kind of pitfall, and for guiding peoples to build co-existence. Especially among - (indigenous) local population (formally Christians), Jews and new immigrant Muslims.

And this lack of mindset and focus - doesn’t get addressed. It’s almost impossible to face other than denials and rubberstamp, repeated prepared answer. There is no examination. There is no examination of facts allowed.

And I always find that as the extremely strange and most disturbing thing about Europe. It was so strange. While I was in UK and as I became aware of what’s really going on in this type of incidents and situations in UK - and I tried to voice my concern - then I noticed there is no examination of facts and following conversation or analysis.

It was just like people shut doors quickly as if there is nothing wrong going on in their city.

And they have no other way of reacting.

One wild guess I could make was - very blunt and uncomfortable one: immigrants get strong support from Socialist/Marxist Left. And Europe’s Left has this strong tendency towards being anti-Israel thus anti-Jewish or anti-Semitic.

Thus Europe’s Left simply doesn’t allow even mentioning that some among Muslim immigrants might harbor anti-Israel or anti-Jewish sentiment. That - even can’t be addressed. And of course Europe’s Left cannot allow any analysis or conversation developing to start and continue from that as a starting point.

That can’t be the answer. I thought. And I stil want to think so. There must be something else.

But how absent - fact-based actual argument on this subject is in Europe - always makes me wonder this blunt association might be the right guess.

Fredrik Sieradzski, 47, is a Jew from Malmö who got tired of waiting for the city’s politicians to take action against anti-Semitic threats and harassment. He recently initiated what he calls “kippah walks” through the streets of the city. Members of the community meet up after services on Saturdays and walk through town wearing visible Jewish symbols. He is critical of how the Swedish media portrays the situation for Malmö’s Jews.

“They don’t write that the perpetrators are Muslims. I simply believe that it’s because the Jewish group is so much smaller than the Muslim,” he said. “Obviously, it’s just a minority of the Muslims in Malmö who threaten us, but we must be able to address the problem.”
